Billy G.

Billy was discharged from prison in the summer of 2020 and had plans to live with his oldest son upon his release. A month before his release, his son was tragically killed in an automobile accident. This shattered Billy’s world and forced him to discharge into homelessness. Billy was staying at a shelter and connected to City Care, where he was set up with Samaritan. Through consistent meetings with his case manager and the active support he received through Samaritan, Billy reactivated his income, and found stable housing. Billy used the money from his Samaritan account to pay for his move in deposit and first month’s rent. Billy celebrated the life of his son and held a memorial service with the rest of his family after he moved into his new housing. Billy also reconnected with his grandchildren and now cherishes his weekends hosting them in his new home!

Lisa spent time in shelters and living homeless on the streets. She engaged with CityCare and the Diversion Hub. After accessing Samaritan, she now has stable housing. Lisa was able to pay the deposit, and purchase much needed household items because of her access to Samaritan. She’s been clean for 3 years and is more excited about life than she has been in a long time.

Trevor B.

Trevor had significant struggles with substance abuse that led to his homelessness. Trevor entered a shelter in 2019 after his life fell apart. Trevor completed the shelter’s 10 month recovery program, undertaking the difficult heart work of examining patterns in his life that led to his addiction and committing to re-learning healthy life skills. During his time in the program, he connected with a case manager from City Care who got him access to Samaritan. Trevor also obtained a job as a forklift operator in a warehouse. He eventually graduated from the program and used the money he acquired through Samaritan to pay for his security deposit on a new apartment. Trevor has been employed now for a year and a half and housed for 3 months. The supplemental income he received through Samaritan has allowed him to save money and clear many obstacles that would have otherwise consumed his entire paycheck.

Daryl B.

Daryl had a bout of bad physical health. Cataracts in both eyes left him blind, and he was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. These health problems led to his street homelessness starting in 2016. He’s on a fixed income and can't afford medical care and housing from his fixed income alone. Through engagement with CityCare, the Diversion Hub, and Samaritan, he is now stable in an affordable housing unit. He has access to the proper amount of care and is engaged with case management. Daryl paid his deposit and part of the first month of rent with his assistance from Samaritan. He was also able to buy a bed and some clothing. Bus fair is no longer a major hurdle now too. Daryl is living the life he feared he would never regain.
